How to play Samurai Sudoku

Bring your attention to one round of Samurai Sudoku. Complete five overlapping Sudoku boards. Every shared cell must satisfy both boards that use it. Look at what changes after your first action. Keep the instructions close while learning this activity. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

This collection contains 4 puzzles. Progress is saved in this browser. The same puzzle can appear again; the collection is not labelled with calibrated difficulty levels.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Complete five overlapping Sudoku boards. Every shared cell must satisfy both boards that use it. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Step by step

  1. Select an editable cell.
  2. Enter a value using the keypad or keyboard; Notes stores candidates.
  3. Read the region, cage, arrow or outside clues alongside the normal constraints.
  4. Check entries verifies the completed board; Undo reverses your last input.
  5. New puzzle selects another included puzzle.

Controls

Click or tap cells and the digit pad. Use Notes, Undo and Reveal selected. Large boards scroll inside the game. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A useful example

One value entered in an overlap serves two boards, so check the corresponding rows, columns and boxes of both. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Notice the change in the playing area.

Watch out for this

A full board must obey every extra rule. Reveal supplies assistance; it is not an earned deduction. Compare the situation with the worked example. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
