How to play Peg Solitaire

Try Peg Solitaire at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Leave a single peg on the English cross board. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

English 33-hole cross; central starting gap; any final single peg wins.

A useful comparison

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Leave a single peg on the English cross board. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Step by step

  1. Select a peg and an empty hole two squares away.
  2. Jump horizontally or vertically over one peg, removing it.
  3. Plan so remaining pegs can still interact.
  4. Undo repairs a deadlock.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

A useful example

Peg–peg–empty in one line permits one jump. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Verify the rule before continuing.

Watch out for this

Diagonal jumps and pulling are not allowed. Check the rule before repeating the action. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
