How to play Ludo

Bring your attention to one round of Ludo. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Use the example below to understand a decision. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Build a steady rhythm

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Read that aim before choosing your first action. Take a moment to understand the current position.

Step by step

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A useful example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow.
