How to play Forty Thieves Solitaire
Open Forty Thieves Solitaire, check the instructions and begin a round. Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. Use the example below to understand a decision. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.
Two decks, ten columns, single-pass stock, no recycle. Free solo play, no wagering.
Notice the feedback
Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.
Your goal
Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Try to explain the aim in your own words.
Step by step
- Move one card at a time; build down in the same suit. Empty columns accept one card.
- Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
- Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
- Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.
Controls
Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.
A useful example
A club 5 can move onto a club 6, but a whole run cannot move together. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Choose a deliberate next step.
Watch out for this
Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
